As part of the review of the draft Finance legislation amendment for 2009 being finalised today, a vote was passed excluding biofuel from the scope of the Carbon Tax.

The carbon tax will therefore not be charged on renewable energies but on fossil fuels, in compliance with the international and European Union framework setting the CO2 emission factor of biofuels at zero.
 
The AGPB, AGPM, CGB and FOP have expressed satisfaction at the outcome of the vote which they were advocating.
 
Not only is this a rational decision in line with the carbon tax, but the Parliament has also confirmed choices made by the Government since 2004 in support of the development of biofuels.
 
The first to benefit from this measure will be agriculture with farming production capturing CO2 through photosynthesis.
