Many delegates from a number of regions attending the FNSEA congress drew attention to the insecurity that will be the plight of field crop farms because of choices made by the government for the implementation of the CAP Health Check.
ORAMA is following on the FNSEA aim, paying close attention to this situation and any developments.
ORAMA has also noted the support plan announced by the public authorities after repeated union movements and demonstrations held protesting against their decisions. This initial response can be seen as a reaction to the concerns of farmers who are now hoping that the provisions announced will be extended with significant legislative measures, in particular for the management of contingency risks.
Producers in the field crop sector will now have to work as best they can on their farms and with partners in the relevant sectors to cope with the change triggered by the CAP Health Check, including, for example, having all production resources and facilities needed available so as to achieve optimal economic and environmental efficiency.
The market context will now be more important than ever for the future of these farmers, and the public authorities will therefore not be able to settle for simply gambling on prices being higher than they are at present. If the forecasts they used as the basis for their approach to implement the Health Check do not eventuate, they will have to adopt new measures. In such a situation, the establishment of the committee for monitoring markets, as announced by the President of the French Republic on March 30 this year, will be timely indeed.
ORAMA will continue to work on these issues, operating in synergy with the FNSEA.
